A Ross School of Business Advisory Board member, Jennifer Barker, MBA ’01, has initiated a new scholarship to enhance the financial accessibility of a Michigan Ross MBA education for qualified students with U.S. military backgrounds. The inaugural recipient will be selected for the 2024-2025 academic year.
This newly established scholarship fund, named to honor her father, Colonel Michael Jallo (Ret.), will be dedicated to supporting MBA students, with preference given to those who have served or are currently serving in the United States military or Coast Guard, including those in the Guard or Reserve. At the donor’s behest, priority consideration will be given to individuals who served in the Army or Marine Corps.
Barker expressed her motivation behind this contribution, stating, “I want to assist U.S. veterans in attending Ross. My father, a retired career Army officer, has shown me the valor, intellect, and tenacity of our service members. I hope this endowment aids a veteran in accessing a world-class Ross education.”
This scholarship endowment, announced near the 2024 Memorial Day Holiday in homage to those who have served their nation, will contribute to the Foundations for Success initiative, a fundraising campaign aiming to amass $200 million for student support and experiences at Ross. During the 2023-2024 academic year, over 1,000 Ross students received scholarships, highlighting the ongoing robust demand for student support.
Sharon F. Matusik, Edward J. Frey Dean of Business, remarked, “We are profoundly thankful for the new Colonel Michael Jallo (Ret.) Scholarship. Scholarships supported by donors such as this are instrumental in making a Ross education more attainable for students and nurturing the next cadre of business leaders at Ross.”
